Hi To All
We are getting into fall-like weather. Great for working on all those projects using fall colors. With Halloween and Thanksgiving just around the corner, there are plenty of ideas for making different projects. If you missed the Sept. meeting and have not heard, our Seven Sisters quilt sold for $4200 at the Relief Sale. Great job, especially for Becky who did the quilting and also having her own quilt bring the top selling price. We had a good turn out at Sew What at Edith’s on the 10 th.

Jan has tabulated the charity quilts and from August, 2004 – August 2005 a total of 111 quilts were donated to various charities including Maple City Health Clinic, Project Linus, Quilts for Soldiers, Churches, Bethany School, Mennonite Relief Sale and Americare Nursing Home.
Laura reported that she and her husband volunteered to work in a shelter of hurricane victims for a week. AQS has sent many quilts to various areas hit by the hurricanes. Inter-Quilt Connections will match dollar for dollar donations to the Red Cross. There are several other quilt magazines/organizations taking quilt donations.
We held an auction with the quilt calendar going for $7 to Sue. Jan & Sue had a flyer about a Quilt Shop Hop in Ohio and Indiana on October 7-15.Program: Jan presented the lesson on power point about marking quilts. Pepper Cory has written several books on marking. “Mastering Quilt Marking” reviews all the tools including which pencils work best. Also mentioned water markers but to use care and follow directions. Other marking tools are colored pencils (white, silver & yellow) chalk pencils, soap stone markers, graphite markers, chalk dusters, ponce pads, chalk wheel markers, soap slivers just to mention a few. She also mentioned the Roxann silver and white markers.
The borders and backgrounds should all be marked ahead before quilting. Design should be 1-2” smaller than the block. There are various ways to mark a quilt and it comes down to personal preference. Contact Jan if you are interested in the book. Submitted by Sylva Keenan
Committees:
Block of the Month Project
Jan Goppert
prepared the following information: Traditional Design - Pattern for 12
inch finished block. The members at the June meeting decided to have a
Block-of-the-Month project this year. It was decided to have the
patterns be traditional designs for a 12" finished block. The blocks
can be traditional designs with a "twist" if it is your own design
creation.
NOTE: If you are looking for block ideas for this project on the internet, you might try this site: Quilt Blocks Galore, http://www.quilterscache.com.
You will find hundreds of quilt blocks patterns. You will take the
pattern home with you and make the block for yourself with your choice
of fabrics. Bring the finished block (or blocks) for "Show and Tell" the next month. If you are ambitious, maybe you could make 2 blocks.
Make one block for yourself and one block to donate to the guild. At
the end of a year we would have quite a collection of blocks to make
opportunity quilts (for raffle) or charity quilts. The following people
have signed up to bring a block design pattern for one month of the
guild's Block-of-the-Month project:
