Summer Happenings

Summer activities keep us busy whether it be vacations, sports, fair activities, weddings, gardening or any other number of things that take up portions of our days this time of year.

Carol has been very busy at work, putting in lots of extra hours. She was in Atlanta for the annual Mennonite Conference and didn’t expect to have much time to work on the newsletter this month. I will attempt to get the newsletter out to everyone and Carol will place it on the web site later.

Remember that we still have open positions for guild offices that need to be filled along with program and hostess slots. Come to the July meeting with ideas and an attitude to pitch in and serve where needed.

I want to thank Edith Shanholt & Marie Troyer along with Jan Goppert for sending information on the June Quilt Shop Hop Trip. I have included their reports in the Newsletter.

Maple Leaf Quilters Guild Meeting
Saturday Shop Hop
Reporters: Edith Shanholt and Marie Troyer

“In place of our regular guild meeting, a field trip to three quilt shops in Ohio was taken on June 28 by nine adventurous souls. We had a great day, with shopping, eating, and some fun and games!

Other “tidbits” from the day:

Many thanks to: Naomi, Elaine, Jan, Roberta (Jan’s mother), Nancy, Sue, and Becky for a really fun day. To Jan and Nancy -- a special thank you for driving. We were sorry that last-minute situations prevented Betty, Carol, and Janis from joining us.”

When the guild took the shop-hop trip to Ohio, I took along a new CD I had just gotten. It is:
“A Quilter's Embrace by Cathy Miller, the singing quilter. The group in my van found it entertaining. Some of the songs were humorous and others were quite touching as they described a quilter's experience and why we quilt. Some of the titles were:

Her first quilting songs CD was: "One Stitch At A Time," which will be my next CD purchase. Cathy's home-page and where you can order the CD is at:

The following has been suggested for the coming year in place of the birthday fat quarter swap. Please let us know your thoughts and preference at the meeting.
