A Quilt for Khanyile

Khanyile Dube shows surprise at the July meeting as she is presented with a going-away gift from the Maple Leaf Quilters co-chair, Edith Shanholt.
Khanile, who is from Zimbabwe, lived in Goshen in a year-long cultural and job training program with the International Visitors Exchange Program sponsored by the Mennonite Central Committee. During her stay here she expressed an interested in learning to quilt and became an honary member of our guild. She has been an active participant and we will miss her. Khanyile returned to her home in Zimbabwe in late July.
MLQ member Janis Nelson organized the project to make this quilt as a gift for Khanyile.

Show and Tell at July Meeting

Carol Honderich shows a baby quilt made by her mother, a contribution to the Maple City Health Care center.

In keeping with the theme of the evening, Liz Martin shows a green "Redwork" project.

Everyone is finishing up those Dancing Star quilts. Janis recently taught the class at Yoder's Dept Store. Elaine Frey on left) still has borders to finish on her project. Marie Troyer (right) shows her finished top.

Fran shows a variation of her Color Blocks pattern using hand-dyed fabrics and converstaion prints.

BIRTHDAY FAT QUARTER CLUB. From June, 2001-May, 2002 we encourage you to join the Maple Leaf Quilters Birthday Fat Quarter Club. Here's how it works: When you sign up you are committing yourself to provide a birthday card and fat quarter of fabric (approx. size: 18" x 20-22") in the color and/or theme chosen by that particular month's Birthday Gals. We will use the regular 4th Monday evening meeting as the time to present the cards and fabrics to the participants. Fabric themes you might choose for yourself could be: "purples" or "cat fabric" or "batiks" or "Thimbleberry fabrics," -- anything you like and want to collect. When purchasing your gift fabric, please buy good quality 100% cotton quilting fabrics. You can use fabric from your stash if it fits the theme/color being requested. Finding the perfect fabric and birthday card for each of the other members will be lots of fun. If you sign up late you will be responsible to make up the gals who have already celebrated their birthdays.    -- Carol Honderich
