Those Janiacs are at it again! Another Dear Jane project got started last month by six of our members. Based on the book by Brenda Papadakis, this round robin project is the second in a series for Maple Leaf Quilters. The first project: Dear Jane Rows of Sharing Project, was completed in July 2000. The current project (shown above) is a vertical row robin involving Janis, Carol, Edith, Marie, Fran and Elaine. Instructions for the first "round" were to design a pair of vine panels using shapes from the Dear Jane book as flower and leaf motifs. In the next three rounds additional vertical panels will be created using blocks from the Dear Jane book. The finished quilt will have the vine panels separated on each side and in the center by the vertical block panels. The projects will be exchanged on a monthly basis among the six participants, with an anticipated finishing date of June or July. This won't be the last of the Dear Jane projects, according to the girls who state the next two projects are in the planning stages. Will they ever run out of Dear Jane ideas? We don't think so!

BIRTHDAY FAT QUARTER CLUB.

From July, 2000-June, 2001 we encourage you to join the Maple Leaf Quilters Birthday Fat Quarter Club. Here's how it works: When you sign up you are committing yourself to provide a birthday card and fat quarter of fabric (approx. size: 18" x 20-22") in the color and/or theme chosen by that particular month's Birthday Gals. We will use the regular 4th Monday evening meeting as the time to present the cards and fabrics to the participants. Fabric themes you might choose for yourself could be: "purples" or "cat fabric" or "batiks" or "Thimbleberry fabrics," -- anything you like and want to collect. When purchasing your gift fabric, please buy good quality 100% cotton quilting fabrics. You can use fabric from your stash if it fits the theme/color being requested. Finding the perfect fabric and birthday card for each of the other members will be lots of fun. If you sign up late you will be responsible to make up the gals who have already celebrated their birthdays.    -- Carol Honderich
